Failed Posts from the Mobile Device of Doom

I have no idea if this will work or not. I am emailing a post to my blog, from my phone, since just posting from my phone's browser is obviously NOT going to work. This is my third attempt to post this morning, and each time I try, I loose more interest in the subject I was going to share.

In a nutshell, it was the Beatitudes and scripture memorization. I was curious how you guys memorize verses.

I am semi-looking forward to another day of "work". Knitting away at gloves, crocheting away at baby blankets, and working out on the Wii Fit are all intense actions. Of couse, I'm not getting paid to play Wii Fit, like I hope to get paid for the other two.

Perhaps we will go to town, perhaps I will go on a walk, and perhaps I will read some of Nicholas Nickleby.

Perhaps it will be a good day.
It will DEFINTELY be a good day to try and serve others.

Introducing Classic Kniterature!

Everyone, I would like to introduce you to what has been filling my days these last week.  I have thought about, pondered upon, and dreamed for this for longer than that, and now I am finally (hopefully!) putting some of those ideas into action.

I would like to present to you, Classic Kniterature.  My shop and blog where I plan on selling some of my handknits, as well as my own handknit designs.  The link goes to the blog, which you can find at http://www.classickniterature.com.  There is not a link to the shop just yet, since there is nothing for sale in the shop, but whenever there are updates, and such, you can find them over at the blog.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures, quotes, or anything awesome to put in this post to help advertise.  I'm slowly working on that, but these things take time.

So basically, I just wanted to make you guys aware of what I was up to, so you can follow the updates over at Classic Kniterature, and start getting excited for things to come!

My Umbrella is Full Giveaway!

I am absolutely in love with things that are being given away to celebrate Miss Lucia having reached 100 followers.  I know how important a milestone like that would be for me, since it will be a LONG time before I reach it. Perhaps I should start planning an awesome giveaway now!

In any case, you all should run over there and check her blog out, because it is very cute, because there are beautiful products to win from talented Etsy shop owners, and even just because the button link itself inspires.  I don't know, these may not be the reasons Miss Lucia was looking for, but then consider these as more added benefits for following one cute blog.

Book Review - Sweater Quest

Sweater Quest: My Year of Knitting DangerouslySweater Quest: My Year of Knitting Dangerously by Adrienne Martini

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First off, I want to say that I am definitely pleased that knitting in novels, and other types of books, is becoming much more popular. If only they could be a little more friendly for those who purposely avoid adult content. (Like me.)

While Sweater Quest did have some language, on the whole it was something that I really enjoyed reading.

It follows the journey of one woman as she sets out to hand-knit the sweater of sweaters, a sweater known throughout the knitting world as one the most involved, inspiring, and intimidating patterns ever created. It was created by a woman who is mysterious and aggravating to knitters, and it was designed with a one-of-a-kind yarn that would break my bank if I even considered buying it. Here's the catch. She decided to do it in one year.

The author tells how she worked her way through knitter's and writer's block, asked for and received advice from experienced, well-known knitters, and how at the last things did and did not turn out how expected. In the end, you find out that it was as much a book about various knitting philosophies, it's history, and it's fascinating impact on the general public as it was about her own personal challenge.

For a knitter, it's well worth the read. For interested-non-knitters, it's also worth the read. For people who aren't interested at all, it may not be worth it, but overall, I would recommend this book as a good read, and one that you can learn from as well.

I would like to share with you what was basically my favorite paragraph from the whole book, although it is not the words of the author herself.  It is not an inspirational quote, by worldly standards, it is not necessarily descriptive peek at what is in the book, and it is not the best quote to end a post with, and yet I will. Adrienne Martini quoted from a historian, Tobi M. Voigt:

"American women who were active knitters during the 1960's and 1970's held a wide array of feelings and opinions about the feminist movement. Not unexpectedly, many of the women who continued to knit did not identify strongly with the feminist movement. They were happy as mothers and homemakers, and were largely unaffected by the feminist suggestions that their hobby trapped them in the home."

The Books of Old Reading Challenge

The Books Of Old Reading Challenge

The Ladies Library is hosting a fabulous challenge, to choose and read one to five books that were written before the 1950's. I am so excited about participating in this fun event!

Here are my five books, I have chosen five books that I have never read before.

  1. The Eagle's Mate (1914)
  2. Bleak House (1853)
  3. Les Miserables (1862)
  4. Nicholas Nickleby (1839)
  5. Foxe's Book of Martyrs (1563)
Now, I know that several of these are ones that I listed in my last post but they still qualify, I do believe.
So if you are interested in participating in The Books of Old Reading Challenge, then you can check out Post 1, Post 2, and Post 3.

To Read Or Not To Read...Read!

My sister and several other people have posted lists of their favorite books and movies of 2010, but as I have a horrible memory, and apparently didn't record reading more than eight books in that year, I will pass on that kind of post.

What I would like to post, however, is a list of books that I plan on reading in 2011.  Actually, I have set myself the goal of reading more than I apparently read in 2008, which according to my Goodreads account, was 65.  This list will help me get started.

  1. At Home in Mitford
  2. Foxe's Book of Martyrs
  3. Bleak House
  4. Design-it, Knit it
  5. Look Unto Me: The Devotions of Charles Spurgeon
  6. A Christmas Carol
  7. Nickolas Nickelby
  8. Oliver Twist
  9. The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Finally, here are a few that I need to finish (and will probably count as books that I read in 2011. Hehe!).

  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • Sweater Quest
  • A Tale of Two Cities
  • Unveiling Islam

As I said, this is just a start.  I have a lot of reading to do!

My Awesome Year in Review!

Well, here it is, the new year.  Yet, I'm not terribly excited.  I'm not sure why, but I guess I forgot about New Years, that it is a celebration, and that a new year with no mistakes in it yet is on it's way.  I didn't make any resolutions, although I could very easily throw a few out there.  I'm afraid they wouldn't be very...heartfelt, though.

Instead, I would like to recap what has happened to me and my family in the last year.  It has been utterly amazing, and I still can't believe it really happened in such a short space of time.

  • We went on a family trip to Cincinnati and had great fun, although we weren't convinced that it would make a perfect family vacation spot.

  • We said goodbye to all of our newfound friends in Kentucky, people we had only known for not even a year, packed up all of our stuff, and headed out west again.
  • We were fortunate enough to be able to visit our dear Sam and her family again on our way! As I have said before, that was definitely a highlight of our adventurous trek.

  • We moved to Idaho.
  • We cleared out a heap of Greasewood to make a nice yard for our motorhome.

  • I moved in with my cousin, another friend, and their foster-child, as well as seven Schnauzers.

  • I helped to build a completely covered porch, and did a lot of work on it!
  • I traveled to Astoria with my Great Aunt.

  • We (as an extended family) went camping.
  • Then (as a single family), we went to the coast!

  • I went camping again, and had a blast.
  • Pip, SmartyJones, and I went to a historical martial arts demonstration/competition and enjoyed our silly selves to the max.
  • I have been learning to trust.
  • I traveled to Reno, Carson City, and Virgina City (Nevada).

  • I became a Pampered Chef Consultant.
  • I bought my first really, truly, expensive yarn. It was originally $12 something, and it was in the clearance bin, plus I got 40% off.  I gave it away at Christmas time, because I couldn't decide what to do with it!
  • I came up with an idea for my handcraft business.
So, that's it in a nutshell.  Actually, now that I get to the bottom of this post, I have come up with a resolution. I need to blog more!  I love blogging so much, but my mind almost always draws a blank. *sigh*

Happy New Year, my dear friends and companions!  Blessings!
